Back in San Diego

Sorry for the lack of an update yesterday. The last two days of the trip have been very long and intense.

Yesterday our group spent a good chunk of our day at a garbage dump in Tijuana. The reason we were there was to handout food and water to those that live and work there. It of course felt like a token gesture in such a difficult place. However, we know that there is a regular presence there by Christians. So we knew that if we did it well we would be adding to the reputation of these Christians that work there every week. The more difficult thing was processing the living conditions of fellow human beings created in the image of God.

Today we crossed back into the United States. After an uneventful crossing we spent a good chunk of our day at Mission Beach. It is July 4th and the place was packed. Though the temperatures were cold we enjoyed our time at the ocean. Some swam and others just slept but it was good. One of the main reflections was the similarity and contrast with the previous day. These people have also been created in the image of God yet their living conditions and situations couldn't be more different. However, what we saw reminded us again of how these people are also in desperate need of God's mercy and grace.

There are a lot of things to process from the last couple days and many of us are very tired. Please pray that God would help us to debrief well in the coming days and that we would have a safe trip home. May God bless you as you worship together this Sunday.

Thanks.
